December's 110% Award Winners

December 110 Percent Award Winners

by Matt Stimac

January 14, 2010

At the December Board Meeting the East Alton School Board presented the 110% Award to two Eastwood Students. Keep reading to see what Taylor Parmentier’s teacher, Mrs. Abert, and Aubrey Robinson teacher, Mrs. Steininger, wrote about these two outstanding students.

Aubrey Robinson

When asked to nominate a student for the 110% award, I did not hesitate. I knew who I wanted to choose right away.  I'm proud to nominate Aubrey Robinson for the December award. Aubrey not only gives 110% academically, she gives her all when it comes to our PBIS standards. Be Responsible, Respectful, Safe & Fight Free.  Aubrey characterizes these standards to a tee!

Academically, Aubrey is reading far above our 2nd grade standards. She exceeds in math, as well. She works hard every day and when she finishes her work, she helps other students or reads a book for enjoyment!!! She's a teacher's dream.

I feel that for a student to give their whole 110%, this means going out of their way not only academically but for others, too. Aubrey is one of the kindest and most thoughtful students in our class. I specifically remember a day when we were playing sparkle using our spelling words. Another little boy in our class was upset because the game didn't go his way. I didn't get involved or say anything right away, because I saw Aubrey immediately reach over and pat him on the arm. She said, "It will be OK. Everyone gets out sometimes." This was at the beginning of the year, before the students knew one another well. I knew then that Aubrey had a heart of gold.

Now that I'm a mother, I tend to look at my students differently. I always wonder which student or students my little girl will grow up to be like. I can truly say that if my daughter portrays the traits that Aubrey does in 2nd grade, I will be overjoyed.

I want to congratulate Aubrey and her parents. Keep up the good work! Aubrey is a true leader among her peers.

Thank you,

Michelle Steiniger

Taylor Parmentier

Taylor Parmentier is an outstanding student.  She exceeds in academic skills.  She is always on time, with her supplies and her homework.  Taylor is an excellent peer tutor.  When she finishes her work, she is always there to help her fellow students.  Taylor is willing to help the teacher, the monitors, or the janitors.  She completes her work, and finds more things to engage her mind.  Taylor is a compassionate student.  She tries to make new students feel included, hurt students feel better, and friends feel welcome.  I enjoy the opportunity to just watch the goodness spill out of Taylor.  She is not just a GREAT student, but a GREAT person as well.
